2024年、心機一転新しい入居者をお迎えしたGrand Welcomeの様子をお届け!

Grand Welcome is a significant traditional event where both new and existing residents come together to connect and build relationships. Organized by RAs who are familiar with U Share’s concept, as well as daily life here. This event is mandatory for all residents. Conducted in English, our main language, Grand Welcome provides a platform for residents to engage in enjoyable activities, fostering a positive beginning to the semester and their experience in Japan.

Grand Welcome Event 2024 Spring

This year we warmly greeted new residents from America, Switzerland, Peru, and more this autumn. Excitement filled the air as residents eagerly connected. The Grand Welcome event for the Spring of 2024 started with an icebreaker activity, setting a lively tone for the gathering. Masa, one of the co-founders of U Share, then addressed the residents, sharing personal anecdotes from his own study abroad experiences and dormitory life at Harvard. He underscored the significance of stepping out of one’s comfort zone and embracing new challenges. Following Masa’s speech, the U Share Resident Office provided an overview of the U Share concept, communal living guidelines, and the educational initiatives available within the community.

After the morning session of the Grand Welcome event, residents embarked on a city tour to acquaint themselves with the Nishi Waseda area, facilitating a smoother transition into life at U Share. Tailored to student needs, the tour made stops at various locations useful for students exploring Nishi Waseda and the wider city. Residents were then divided into groups for lunch, with the freedom to choose restaurants of their liking.

The afternoon session commenced with indoor activities, including Bingo and Two Truths and A Lie, aimed at fostering deeper connections among residents. Additionally, the “Share Your Vision & Goals” activity encouraged residents to articulate their aspirations for 2024 and their bucket lists for their time in Japan. Following the engaging activities, residents engaged in discussions with their suitemates, addressing important aspects of communal living such as dishwashing habits and daily routines. This provided a valuable opportunity for residents to learn to compromise and respect each other’s preferences, reflecting U Share’s motto of “Living together, growing together.”

The day concluded with a delightful pizza party on the rooftop, offering residents a chance to enjoy the warming weather and picturesque views while bonding over delicious food. Gentle breezes of Spring provided an ideal backdrop for participants to indulge in delicious food and drinks while engaging in lively conversations with newfound friends. Despite initial nerves, the atmosphere transformed as laughter and camaraderie filled the air, reflecting the blossoming connections among residents. We eagerly anticipate witnessing the vibrant tapestry of the U Share community, enriched by the bonds forged and the unique personalities of each individual.
