At U Share, we continuously seek opportunities to foster cultural exchange and deeper connections among residents. On March 2, we hosted a special tour to the Kusama Yayoi Museum, providing participants with the chance to experience the works of one of Japan’s most renowned contemporary artists while engaging in meaningful discussions with fellow residents.
The event began with a gathering at U Share, where participants, including two guests, introduced themselves. As we walked to the museum, conversations naturally flowed, covering topics such as hometowns, personal connections to art, and favorite artistic styles. This informal exchange helped everyone feel comfortable, setting the stage for an enriching experience.
Immersing in Kusama’s Art
At 4:00 PM, we entered the museum and spent about an hour exploring Kusama’s captivating exhibition. Her distinctive artistic style, characterized by polka dots, infinity motifs, and vibrant colors, drew deep interest from participants. With both Japanese and English descriptions provided, international residents were able to fully grasp the background and themes of the displayed works, enhancing their appreciation of the exhibition.
One of the highlights of the visit was the rooftop installation, where Kusama’s iconic “Pumpkin” sculpture stands. Here, we took a group photo, commemorating our shared experience. The artwork’s bold colors and intricate design sparked lively discussions, demonstrating the power of art to connect people across cultures and perspectives.
Reflecting on Art and Self-Expression
Beyond the visual spectacle, the museum’s quite environment allowed for a moment of personal reflection. Engaging with Kusama’s works prompted introspective conversations, encouraging participants to share their thoughts on creativity, mental condition, and self-expression.
Overall, the event proved to be an excellent opportunity for residents to bond through their shared appreciation for art. Even those who were meeting for the first time found it easy to engage in discussions and build connections. Inspired by the success of this tour, we hope to continue organizing cultural events that allow residents to explore and appreciate art while deepening their relationships with one another.
Stay tuned for more opportunities to discover art and culture with the U Share community!
