This time, U Share proudly welcomes a new addition to its vibrant space: DREAMSPARK Brewing Waseda. Located on the first floor of U Share, this craft beer haven is more than just a bar—it’s a space where dreams ignite, conversations flow, and cultures connect. We sat down with the founder, Dan, to learn more about his journey, his passion for craft beer, and how he envisions this space becoming an integral part of the U Share community.
A Place Where Dreams Spark to Life
The name DREAMSPARK carries a powerful message. “It’s a blend of three words—Dream, Park, and Spark,” Dan explains.
“I wanted this place to be a park filled with dreams, where people gather, share ideas, and ignite new possibilities. The ‘Spark’ represents those little moments when inspiration strikes—whether it’s discovering a new favorite beer, meeting someone with a fresh perspective, or simply enjoying the atmosphere.”With this vision in mind, DREAMSPARK Brewing Waseda isn’t just a bar—it’s a space where creativity and community thrive.
From Boston to Okinawa to Waseda: Dan’s Journey
Dan’s story is as rich and complex as the craft beers he serves. His journey started in 2012, when he moved to the United States for his studies. There, he joined the well-known ramen shop “Yume Wo Katare” (Speak Your Dreams) in Boston, where he not only learned how to craft a perfect bowl of ramen but also absorbed the philosophy of dreaming big and sharing aspirations.
After working in Boston, Dan returned to Japan and opened “Yume Wo Katare Okinawa”, continuing the tradition of encouraging people to voice their dreams while enjoying great food. After three years, he graduated from that project and decided to take on a new challenge—creating a space where craft beer and coffee lovers could gather, share, and discover.
“When I found out that my mentor was also starting to make craft beer, and this space at U Share became available, I knew it was now or never,” Dan recalls. “I took a leap, even though it was sooner than I had planned, and here we are.”
The Experience: More Than Just a Bar
Walking into DREAMSPARK Brewing Waseda, you immediately sense the warm and welcoming atmosphere. Dan envisions the space as a sophisticated yet approachable social hub—a place where conversations flow as smoothly as the beer.
“I want this to be a space where people not only enjoy high-quality craft beer and coffee but also connect, exchange ideas, and unwind in a casual yet inspiring environment. Whether it’s discussing recent life events, new ambitions, or just the latest beer trends, this place should feel like a second home.”
The rotating selection of four specialty craft beers and four curated coffee varieties ensures there’s always something new to explore.
“Each beer and coffee is carefully chosen, and once it’s gone, we bring in something fresh,” Dan shares. “That way, every visit offers a new experience.”
Engaging with the U Share Community
As a part of U Share, Dan sees DREAMSPARK Brewing Waseda as more than just a business—it’s a place that belongs to the students and residents as well.
“Since this bar is located inside U Share, I’d love to create special events for students—maybe a ‘Student Night’ with discounts or themed evenings where we all get together and have fun. I want people to feel like they can drop by, hang out, and make this place their own.”
Beyond casual visits, Dan hopes to collaborate with residents in meaningful ways. “If anyone has cool event ideas, collaborations, or even just wants to learn more about craft beer, I’m totally open to making that happen.”
