In our latest resident spotlight, we introduce Diego Rejman, an active member of our U Share community. Originally from Spain and Poland, Diego is studying at Waseda University as part of his exchange program. His journey in Tokyo over the past five months has been filled with exploration, new friendships, and exciting experiences.
Japan had always been at the top of my list for an exchange destination. Growing up with many Asian friends, I felt connected to the culture and wanted to experience it firsthand. When Waseda University became an option, I knew it was the perfect fit—not just for me, but for my family, who were equally thrilled to visit me here.
Since arriving, Tokyo has surpassed all my expectations. The city is vibrant, well-organized, and full of opportunities to explore. I’ve traveled to iconic places like Kamakura, Kyoto, and Nara and will soon fulfill a lifelong dream of skiing in Hokkaido. Navigating Tokyo has been surprisingly easy thanks to its incredible transportation system, and every corner of the city offers something new to discover, from its delicious cuisine to its stunning architecture.
Why I Chose U Share
Finding accommodation in Tokyo was initially stressful, especially since I started searching late. Thankfully, U Share had an available room, and it quickly became my top choice due to its proximity to campus and its diverse, international environment. The idea of living with residents from different backgrounds appealed to me because it provided a supportive space where I could adjust to life in Japan without feeling completely out of my depth.
Living here has given me the perfect balance of independence and community. The facilities are great, and the shared spaces make it easy to connect with other residents. Choosing U Share was the best decision I could have made.
Memorable Moments and Cultural Discoveries
The people I’ve met at U Share have been the highlight of my experience. Thanks to the events organized by the community, I’ve formed friendships with residents from around the world. We often gather for rooftop hangouts, casual chats in the Agito Lounge, or study sessions that turn into meaningful conversations. One of my favorite memories is spending mornings on the rooftop reading before class—until it got too cold, of course!
Adapting to Japanese cultural norms was a bit of a challenge at first. Simple things like not eating or drinking on the metro and bowing during exchanges felt unfamiliar. I remember getting a few stares on my second day when I opened a water bottle on the metro. But over time, I learned to appreciate these customs as signs of mutual respect and order. Now, they feel natural to me, and I know I’ll carry these habits back home when I leave Japan.
A Community That Supports Growth
U Share has been more than just a place to live—it’s a community that fosters personal growth and meaningful connections. Living here has allowed me to meet incredible people, explore Tokyo, and embrace a new culture with open arms. As my time in Japan continues, I know the experiences and lessons I’ve gained will stay with me long after I leave. U Share has truly made my stay in Tokyo unforgettable.
