New to the Team: Meet RA Joud!

新しくRAに就任した、Joudさんをご紹介します!

At U Share, our RAs play a vital role in creating this environment, and we’re excited to introduce you to one of them: Joud Almozaiyn!

Joud has been a part of the U Share community since last September, when she moved in as an international student at Waseda University, studying Political Science and Economics. Originally from Saudi Arabia and also attending the University of Wisconsin-Madison, she chose U Share for its welcoming atmosphere and diverse community. Now, starting this April, she’s also taken on the role of Resident Assistant to help residents make the most of their U Share experience.

Why Japan? Why U Share?

Why not! Studying in Japan was something I had always wanted but didn’t think was possible until I found out my university offered a study abroad exchange program. I picked Japan because I was interested in widening the breadth of topics I’m currently studying with my degree through a Japanese institution. I’ve also taken a language course prior to coming to Japan which enhanced the quality of my experience! Finding U Share came naturally. Their YouTube videos showcasing the property interested me! From the layout of the building to their common space facilities, sense of community, and especially their location being close to Waseda made it the perfect destination for me!

How does your background influence how you connect with others at U Share?

The point of U Share is to create a fun and collaborative space that engages people from different academic, socioeconomic, and cultural backgrounds. My Arab background plays a big role in how I connect with others at U Share. It ingrained in me my core values: the importance of hospitality, community, and open dialogue — and these values align perfectly with U Share’s mission. I naturally gravitate toward creating inclusive environments where everyone feels seen and heard, and I’m always excited to learn from others’ perspectives as well.

What kind of experience do you hope residents will take away from living here?

As the world becomes more culturally diverse, we’re all encouraged to grow as global citizens. Living in a diverse community like U Share offers a unique opportunity to put that into practice in everyday life, not just in the classroom or through academic study. This kind of growth, which is often emphasized in liberal arts and international studies, becomes even more meaningful when it’s shaped by real, lived experiences and genuine cultural exchange.

What advice would you give to someone nervous about living abroad or in a shared international space?

Learn adaptability early on. The sooner you accept that delays, unexpected changes, and things not going perfectly are just part of the experience, the smoother and even more playful your time abroad will be. Also, living in a shared space can mean whatever you want it to mean. So, lean into it. Create your own rhythm, be open to new people, and don’t be afraid to step out of your comfort zone. Who knows, you might come across moments that become the best memories of your time abroad.

Any messages for people considering U Share?

Definitely go for U Share! If this will be your first time studying or working in Japan or if you’re a returning traveler planning a longer stay, U Share is a great option. It’s a welcoming space that helps you settle in smoothly, connect with others, and really make the most of your time here.
